Thomas is a busy young man, juggling multiple roles: part-time college student, dedicated employee, supportive son, big brother to four younger siblings, and a meticulous planner. His day starts at 4:30 AM when he heads to work. In the evenings, he attends school and helps his single mother manage household responsibilities. When the family car broke down, Thomas and his mother had to rely on public transportation and ride-sharing apps. This situation was stressful, time-consuming, and expensive.
Recognizing the need for a better solution, Thomas turned to Catholic Charities and met Diane Barston, the Loan and Financial Education Program Manager. With Diane’s guidance, Thomas began tracking his expenses and developing a monthly budget.
After working diligently with Diane for a couple of months, Thomas qualified for a loan and purchased the car he had been dreaming of. Now, with a second car, Thomas no longer relies on public transportation. He can pick up extra shifts at work, earning additional money to support his college education. He also drives his younger siblings to and from school and their extracurricular activities, making life easier and happier for everyone. Additionally, Thomas has started a savings account for future plans, which include further education, travel, and perhaps another dream car.
