SUMMARY:

The Thomas Merton Family Center (TMFC), a program of Catholic Charities of Fairfield County, has been providing services to residents for 50 years. Located in a new facility on the west side of Bridgeport, CT, we are in search of a part-time (25 hours/week) Maintenance Assistant. The newly-built center aims to provide essential services to the homeless including hot meals, health care and job training.

The Maintenance Assistant will provide general cleaning at the Center and maintain a safe and efficient work environment. The assistant is responsible for ensuring all sanitizing policies are followed and to maintain general cleanliness in the Center and assist in the dish room as needed.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Responsible for removing all trash in Dining Hall, all staff offices and kitchen.
• Responsible for all sanitizing and cleaning protocols in dining hall.
• Clean bathrooms.
• Break down boxes and empty into cardboard container, if needed.
• Sweep, vacuum and mop all assigned floor areas.
• Assist in the dish room as needed.
• Maintain cleanliness around the exterior of building.
• Assist with breakfast and lunch program.
• Must be able to lift at least 25+ pounds.

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION, SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:
• High school or GED.
• 1+ years’ experience performing maintenance work.

Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to lift supplies weighing 25+ pounds.
• Communicate effectively and productively.
• Well organized and has ability to adapt to changes quickly.
• Demonstrated ability to work well with others.
