STAMFORD — On Wednesday, November 22, New Covenant Center, a program of Catholic Charities of Fairfield County, had volunteers collecting food at LaRocca’s Country Market on Old Long Ridge Road in Stamford.

More than 2,500 items were expected to be donated to New Covenant, which is Stamford’s largest combined daily soup kitchen and food pantry.

The food is being collected for the 550 families — almost 1,600 individuals — who shop monthly in New Covenant’s food pantry. The food items will be stocked this weekend and distributed next week.

This is a busy season for New Covenant, as it’s holding its annual Thanksgiving Day lunch on Thursday at St. Leo Church of Stamford. More than 125 people are expected.
