April is Financial Literacy Month
April is Financial Literacy Month, a time dedicated to enhancing our understanding of personal finance and empowering individuals to make informed financial decisions. At Catholic Charities of Fairfield County, we recognize the profound impact that financial education can have on individuals and families striving for stability and self-sufficiency. To support this mission, we offer specialized programs in Danbury and Norwalk designed to provide both financial education and access to low-interest loans for essential needs.
Serving the Greater Danbury Area, our Family Loan Program offers small, low-interest loans ranging from $500 to $10,000 at a fixed 5.5% interest rate, regardless of credit score. Eligible uses include:
- Used Car Purchase – Up to $10,000 for reliable transportation to work
- Vehicle Repairs – Up to $2,000
- Security Deposits – Up to $2,000 to secure stable housing
- Childcare Costs – Up to $1,000 for one-time registration fees or summer camp
In addition to financial assistance, we provide personalized financial education and budget counseling to support self-sufficiency, ensure successful loan repayment, and help build positive credit. These services are available to anyone in need of financial guidance.

Loan and Financial Education Program – Norwalk/Stamford
Serving Lower Fairfield County, our Loan and Financial Education Program has been assisting the community for over 20 years. We are dedicated to providing free financial education and budgeting services to those who are socioeconomically disadvantaged. Our experienced counselors work one-on-one with clients to develop personalized budgets, offer money-saving tips, and provide resources to achieve financial goals.
Loans are available to qualified applicants for purposes such as car purchases, immigration fees, childcare costs, home repairs, job training, school tuition, and other unplanned expenses. Loans are issued to a third party and cannot be used for past due bills or outstanding debt. The approval process for low-interest loans typically takes 4 to 6 weeks.
