In September 2022, the Smiths were finally able to secure housing for their family of six, determined to provide a stable and loving environment for their four children. Marissa, the mother, exhibited remarkable strength and determination as she tirelessly searched for employment while caring for her family. Her husband was actively employed, and together, they diligently saved every month to pay their rent using a money order.
However, disaster struck when Marissa’s wallet was stolen while shopping, leaving the family in a dire situation, unable to pay their rent. Their dreams of stability were at risk of being shattered.
Fortunately, Catholic Charities of Fairfield County came to their rescue, thanks to the generous support of the Gerstner Helping Hands Grant! The grant provided the much-needed funds to pay the Smith family’s rent, averting the looming threat of eviction. This vital assistance was complemented by a dedicated case manager who worked closely with the Smiths, assessing their situation and offering practical solutions. Additionally, they were connected with local resources for employment opportunities and banking, providing a solid foundation for their future.
