Security Guard

The Thomas Merton Family Center, a program of Catholic Charities of Fairfield County, is seeking a professional and dependable Security Guard (unarmed) to maintain a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment for guests, staff, and volunteers.

Responsibilities

• Monitor entrances, common areas, dining spaces, and surrounding grounds.
• Ensure all guests are properly checked in and out using the tracking system.
• Identify unsafe behavior and take preventative, non-confrontational action.
• Use de-escalation techniques to manage conflicts calmly.
• Maintain a visible and professional security presence.
• Complete incident reports and logs accurately and promptly.
• Communicate safety concerns to Operations Manager and staff.
• Work respectfully with a diverse population including individuals experiencing homelessness.
• Support staff during high-traffic meal service and program hours.
• Uphold TMFC policies with professionalism and courtesy.

Requirements & Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods; strong observational skills and sound judgment.
• Ability to remain calm in high-stress situations; reliable and punctual.
• Experience in security, public safety, military, or law enforcement preferred.
• De-escalation/conflict resolution training, incident reporting experience, and bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
