Catholic Charities of Fairfield County is seeking a Director for its Thomas Merton Family Center (TMFC), located in Bridgeport CT. This full-time, benefits-eligible position reports to the Executive Director and is responsible for all aspects of the Center’s program planning, administration, and day-to-day management of services including the supervision of guest volunteers and Title V workers from outside agencies. The Director is responsible for development and will work with development staff and the advisory council to obtain new donors and retain existing contributors while promoting the mission of the Thomas Merton Family Center in providing a safe, supportive, respectful and hope-filled service environment to the guests who seek its services.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • In conjunction with the Executive Director, will assume development and monitoring of program budget; ensure timely and accurate financial reports as well as compliance with financial policies. Will work with the Director of Philanthropy and development staff to initiate fundraising and grant writing requirements.

    • Assures a nurturing and positive atmosphere for guests, staff, volunteers, and visitors, in accordance with the program’s philosophy and mission.

    • Responsible for all aspects of facility operations and maintenance at the Center.

    • Hires, supervises, evaluates, and manages staff while providing the necessary mentoring to optimize performance.

    • Provides strong advocacy for the program at the local, regional and county levels to leverage funding, and collaborates with affinity organizations to build capacity and enhance or expand the program’s scope of services.

    • Responsible for recruiting and building the TMFC Advisory Board and building relationships with Board members to help increase fundraising and awareness of the work of TMFC in the Bridgeport community.

    • In conjunction with the Director of Philanthropy, works with the Advisory Council in the development and execution of fundraising activities.

    • Responsible for the implementation of the agency’s Strategic Planning and Quality Improvement requirements relative to the Center.

 

Education and essential skills and abilities required:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or related field; comparable equivalent training and experience considered

    • Experience with monitoring and generating program budgets required;      Grant writing experience a plus.

    • Familiarity with the development and execution of fundraising activities.

    • Five years human service management or equivalent management experience which correlates to the Merton service model.

    • Knowledge and capability of working with at-risk populations and experience supervising program services within a non-profit organization

    • Ability to successfully cultivate relationships with donors, volunteers, vendors and outside constituencies.

    • Ability to lead and inspire staff, volunteers and guests in a culturally-diverse setting.

    • Demonstrated success administrating multiple program services and effective financial management capability.

    • Communicate effectively and productively.

    • Detail oriented, well organized, ability to work under pressure, and ability to adapt to changes quickly.

    • Ability to work independently with only general supervision.

    • Possess working knowledge of human services and at-risk populations.

    • Demonstrate strong teamwork skills and management
