The Immigration Program of Catholic Charities of Fairfield County, which provides legal consultation and case management services to immigrants and their families, seeks a full-time, benefits-eligible (35 hours/week) Immigration Counselor. Located at the Thomas Merton Family Center in Bridgeport CT, and reporting to the Program Director, the Immigration Counselor ensures efficient day-to-day program operation through scheduling, client intake and initial case priority assessment.
ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide general administrative and clerical support including mailing, scanning, faxing and copying,
collection of services fees, deposits with accounting and recordkeeping for statistical analysis, etc.
• Regularly updates client’s activities and services into internal database and collects and provides
statistical information as assigned
• Under guidance of the Accredited Representative, provide technical assistance and case
management support to immigrants and their families regarding naturalization, family reunification
and adjustment of status matters.
• Willing to participate in DOJ recognized comprehensive overview of immigration law trainings to
pursue Partial DOJ accreditation to help expand the program’s immigration services.
• Participate in presentations and events to advocate, support and inform the immigrant community
of our area, sometimes hosted outside of regular work hours.
• Maintain close contact with local agencies on best client referral practices.
• On a case-by case basis, attend Hartford interviews with clients as translator.
• Ability to work under pressure and exercise flexibility as needed.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality in all matters related to the program.
ESSENTIAL EDUCATION, SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS:
• Degree from a two or four-year institution and/or equivalent experience. Equivalent experience may
include two-three years of experience working in a legal environment.
• Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) required.
• Experience, or familiarity, with delivery of case management services.
• Familiarity with federal immigration policy and laws (preferred).
• Past experience working as a DOJ accredited representative (preferred).
• Experience working with immigrant communities preferred.
