This was the third consecutive year in which lower Fairfield County was impacted by a major snow storm and New Covenant Center was open and ready to serve guests in need of a meal or a warm place to check in. About 35 guests visited on Thursday and there was plenty of food for all to receive a second helping if they wanted. Each guest also left with a meal to go of sandwiches, fruit, energy bars and juice packs to carry them through until the next day.
New Covenant Center has adopted a “first responder” mentality as hunger is a daily issue for many. There were 40-50 guests during the two previous storms but this was more challenging because of the high winds, drifts and near whiteout conditions.
