Program Description

Catholic Charities of Fairfield County provides Disaster Case Management Services for the residents of the State of Connecticut. The Catholic Charities Disaster Case Management Program works directly with the Connecticut Office of Emergency Management and partner agencies. Catholic Charities of Fairfield County provides ongoing case management for the 75 miles of shoreline families, as well as the residents throughout the state, recovering from Superstorm Sandy. While many short-term goals following this massive storm have been addressed, Catholic Charities is focusing on helping families with long-term case management needs to rebuild their homes and their lives. Catholic Charities is now an active member of CTVOAD and the Long Term Recovery Groups throughout the State that try to meet the needs of the communities while assisting residents to reach their new normal.

One Client's Story

A resident of Washington Village (Norwalk, CT), mother of 3 and in her first trimester, was on total bed rest during Hurricane Sandy. Since she was incapacitated, she missed the opportunity to receive local assistance and was not aware of the potential FEMA assistance available. Just recently, the client was referred to Catholic Charities by another agency that could not assist because they only work with clients registered with FEMA. Catholic Charities can assist clients not registered with FEMA. A disaster case manager met with the client and after an assessment uncovered the need for a refigerator, stove and a kitchen table with chairs. Catholic Charities was an open door to an otherwise closed matter. There are so many others who need our help.
